History Of Kinesiology

The history of Kinesiology began in 1917 and has its roots in Chiropractic and Orthopaedic Surgery. During the 1950s, manual muscle testing was used in a double-blind study to assess the effectiveness of the Salk vaccine against Polio, which was a major international health concern during the time.

With its origins in modern western culture, kinesiology rapidly expanded to include a wide range of ancient eastern healing philosophies and techniques.

Applied Kinesiology began in 1964 by the chiropractor Dr. George Goodheart who developed kinesiology into a therapeutic tool rather than as a prime diagnostic device.  Kinesiology became a biofeedback tool that would start to listen to the complex needs of each individual body.

During the 20th century, kinesiology has further expanded to incorporate elements of energy medicine, moving from a primarily linear paradigm to more psycho-emotional and esoteric learning.
